  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs and vanilla extract, and mix until combined.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, and mix until just combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, stir together the buttermilk, coffee and cocoa powder. Add the buttermilk mixture to the cake batter and mix until just combined.
  5. Stir in the chocolate chips, and pour the batter into the prepared pan. Bake for 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool the cake in the pan for 10 minutes before turning out onto a wire rack to cool completely. Dust with confectioners’ sugar, if desired, and enjoy!
